"Advertising, Publishing and Supply Chain Sustainability"
A Panel Discussion, Thursday, June 14th, 2007
New York City

The Institute for Sustainable Communication (ISC) invites you to attend a panel discussion on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 4 pm EST titled "Advertising, Publishing and Supply Chain Sustainability." The panel will engage representatives from advertising, publishing, and printing industries as well as leading nonprofit organizations in a discussion about the practical steps advertisers and the print media industry can take to address the challenges of climate change and supply chain sustainability.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Calvert Asset Management Company, Stu Dalheim, Manager Sustainability and Shareholder Advocacy
  • The Carbon Disclosure Project, Zoe Riddell, Vice President
  • "Green to Gold", Andrew Winston, Co-Author
  • Institute for Sustainable Communication, Don Carli, Senior Research Fellow
  • John Hardy, John Hardy, Founder
  • Ogilvy, Freya Williams, Senior Partner, Planning Director
  • Time Inc, David Refkin, Director of Sustainable Development

There is growing consensus that addressing climate change, energy security and sustainability depend on companies doing business differently. With more and more companies being called upon to disclose and reduce their carbon footprints, is it enough for business to advertise about addressing climate change and for publishers to give editorial attention to the greening of business – without the greening of advertising and publishing supply chains?

Clearly obstacles remain to changing the way advertising and publishing businesses manage their supply chain functions – but ultimately solutions can and must be found to address these challenges. The objective of the Institute for Sustainable Communication and its Sustainable Advertising Partnership is to stimulate candid discussion and timely action among advertisers, publishers, members of their supply chains and their key stakeholders. The goal is to understand what a shared vision of a sustainable supply chain is and how to proactively address transforming it.

The panel will be moderated by Laurance Allen, editor and publisher of ValueNewsNetwork.com. Prior to founding Value Laurance launched the Financial Times in North America, was publisher of the Harvard Business Review as well as founding publisher and co-creator of Strategy + Business magazine.

This on-the-record, invitation-only panel will be held at Citi Smith Barney at 345 Park Avenue, 21st Floor in Manhattan. Registration begins at 3:30 pm; food & beverages will be provided. The panel discussion begins promptly at 4 pm followed by a cocktail reception from 5:30 - 7:00 pm.
